SOME MASKS I OWN. SOME I DON'T
Wednesday, Jan. 08, 2003 - 8:33 a.m.

Thinking about the mask issue from my last entry got me to thinking about masks.

I have worn many masks in my life, and decided to give some of them names.

Masks I have worn for business promotion I have named successful, important, and needed. Not necessarily evil masks, though sometimes it seemed to me that I was neither successful, important, or particularly needed.

And yet, I think these are three things that need to be portrayed in approaching clients, or potential clients.

I have worn some masks for the benefit of others, even though if I had taken them off at the time, and peeked in a mirror, what I would see would not match the masks.

I will call them diplomacy, civility, and courtesy. Many times, I can show this face without a mask, though now that I think about it, I believe I will keep these three masks for those times that I don't really feel that way.

I am glad that I do not have to own a mask called compassion. I do not own one called appreciation. Nor do I own one called love.

I am sorry to admit it, I do however own one called contentment. I wear that one quite a bit when in public. In fact I have it on at this very moment. I think I can put that one away for awhile. I just looked in the mirror with it removed from my face, and I simply cannot see the difference.

Maybe it's because I feel no need to own a mask called honesty.
